Vendor fair for new medical center project

Turner Construction Company, the general contractor for the new Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) Braselton project, will hold a subcontractor and vendor outreach fair at the Gainesville Civic Center on Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at 1 p.m. At the fair, representatives from Turner will provide pre-qualification and project information to subcontractors wishing to bid for construction elements and vendors seeking to supply systems or materials for the new hospital project.

All interested subcontractors are invited to visit the public project website, www.ngmcproject.com, that will serve as the communications hub for current and potential subcontractors/vendors, craftsmen and project team members seeking up-to-date information related to the NGMC Braselton project. The website also includes a Subcontractor/Vendor Interest Form and Craftsman Interest Form, which can be submitted online. Once submitted, the information will be stored in a database for the project. By utilizing this system, Turner will be able to keep track of every subcontractor, vendor and craftsman interested in the project.

Contractors needed in Georgia

US Federal Contractor Registration reports an immediate demand for registered businesses to work federal government contracts in Georgia based on the volume of listings on the Federal Business Opportunities website posted by contracting officers looking for vendors to bid on available work.

In the past year, over $9 billion has been spent on federal contracts in the state of Georgia, representing 1.9 percent of the total spent on contracts during the past year as reported on the USASpending website.

According to USASpending, over 40 percent of all contracting dollars spent in Georgia during the last year were competed and put out for open bidding by contractors. Small businesses in particular are urged to complete registration and place bids for contracts. Of the 100,866 contracts awarded in Georgia over the past year, over half were awarded to small businesses. Each federal agency is urged by regulations to award at least 23 percent of their contracting dollars to small businesses.

Pattillo to construct Georgia’s first speculative building in four years

Rendering of Pattillo's new 71,000 s.f. speculative building

Pattillo Industrial Real Estate will begin construction on a new, 77,100-square-foot speculative building in the new Gainesville Business Park in December 2011.  In recent months, the supply of quality buildings in the market has grown scarce, yet a skilled workforce remains plentiful.  The area’s unemployment rate remains between 8-9%, and Gainesville-Hall County remains a regional employment center for workforce in Hall and surrounding counties.

“This is the first speculative building developed in Georgia in almost four years,” said Larry Callahan, CEO, Pattillo Industrial Real Estate.  “Our firm will be making this investment in one of the hottest economic development markets in the Southeast.  The Gainesville-Hall County market has demonstrated that demand by employers to access the skilled workforce drives demand for manufacturing space.  The time is right for additional supply in this size range.”

Local housing market dodging crisis

When most people first learn of my profession their eyes drop, the corners of their mouths break a sad smile, and they tell me they are sorry to hear I’m trying to make a living in this housing market.

How shocked everyone is when I reply to them that I had my best year ever last year and have matched last year’s business volume in the first 7 months of this year. Then they are further surprised to learn that I’m not selling many banked owned homes, rather I’m selling homes in and around Gwinnett County to and for traditional sellers and buyers. The housing market in Georgia, Metro Atlanta and Gwinnett is getting healthier every day.

Commercial Real Estate Fairing Better

When you hear the phrase ‘real estate crisis’, you probably think residential real estate crisis. Foreclosures, short sales and resale values at all-time lows have become the norm for residential real estate, but commercial real estate also took a hit. Brokers and bankers both agree commercial real estate tends to lag behind. Many effects of inflated values on office park buildings and strip mall centers are just now rearing their ugly heads.

But, Scott LeCraw, owner of LeCraw Realty, feels Gwinnett County has weathered the worst of the market fall already and while the road to recover is still a long one, the climb should be steady.

Early adoption and adaptation bring success to Pinnacle Winner Atlanta Housing Source

Mark Lackey, founder of Atlanta Housing Source

How do you succeed in the post-collapse real estate and mortgage markets?

Few companies have answered this question correctly in the past several years. Even fewer have been able to build a thriving business.  But that’s not the case for 2011 Pinnacle Award Winner Atlanta Housing Source at Solid Source Realty, Inc.

Founded in 2005 by Anne and Mark Lackey, Atlanta Housing Source started as a residential real estate team serving the north Atlanta suburbs. Six years later, the company has expanded into rentals and investing, and manages approximately 200 homes in the Gwinnett County region.

On the Hinge of Expansion

Hettich America President Thomas Ginscel went for location and existing infrastructure when he chose a Gwinnett site for the German hardware manufacturer's new headquarters

Gwinnett has opened the door for international companies to relocate here over the years, but before 2011 was out of the gate the county celebrated the arrival of Hettich America – one of the world’s largest manufacturers of European hardware.

The German-based manufacturer of hardware for kitchen cabinets, appliances, residential and office furniture moved its only U.S.-based location to Georgia’s second largest county last month, cutting the ribbon on a new 150,000 square-foot campus in Buford that offers further expansion potential.
